Can I use Gutermann Glue instead of Fray Check ?

Not really!  Gutermann never comes out of the tube cleanly, there are always fine, hairy bits of glue which can go anywhere.  Fray check sinks into the fabric on contact, drying quickly to prevent fraying where as Gutermann is likely to sit on the surface, take longer to dry and ultimately make a mess
